Annette had been driving by Jurassic CrossFit for YEARS thinking and telling her husband that she wanted to try CrossFit out. She had several friends over the years who had done CrossFit and they all made it sound amazing to her. Annette says, “My biggest fear was that I wouldn’t be able to do any of the exercises.” She felt her fitness level was very low and that she would have been put at a disadvantage due to the amount of body fat she carried.
In January, she kept seeing the ads on social media for Jurassic CrossFit, and she, “finally, once and for all, clicked the link and signed up for the No Sweat-Intro.” It was early on a Saturday morning and when her husband woke up a little later, she told him she was going to the gym for her appointment.
“Walking in that door to meet Coach Lucas that morning was difficult and my anxiety was really high,” she said. “Lucas met me with a huge welcoming smile, and I was immediately at ease. When I came back to begin my on-ramp classes, I was pretty nervous. Coach Kayla met me as soon as I walked in. She was welcoming and so friendly. She led me through everything, assuring me I could definitely do this. I had so much fun in on-ramp and I couldn’t wait to begin attending classes.”
She says she looks forward to showing up for class and seeing what the workout of the day will be. “I actually enjoy the challenge of CrossFit and especially enjoy the feeling of accomplishment afterwards. The culture of Jurassic CrossFit is incredible. Everyone is so nice and encouraging!” Annette’s advice to you is to not worry about your fitness level or how to work around long ignored injuries. “The coaches can scale and modify anything to make it doable and still challenging.”
Annette says that CrossFit has helped her outside of the gym too! “I am feeling much more confident with just about everything. The lower back pain that I’ve almost always had is nearly non-existent now. I feel like I’m sleeping a lot better as well. I’ve had some injuries in the past that I’ve basically been ignoring. Specifically, my left knee. CrossFit has helped me realize that I need to get it re-evaluated and fixed so I can keep coming back in that door for the 9 am class!”
CrossFit is more than the workouts. You learn about the importance of sleep, managing stress, drinking enough water, and nutrition. Since nutrition is the foundation of health, Annette decided to join the nutrition program a little over 4 months ago to learn even more! She felt like if she was going to put in the effort in the gym, she should also put in effort with her nutrition. Even though Jurassic CrossFit provides general education and helps you come up with ways to implement healthier habits into your life, Annette felt like she was at a crossroads with either continuing to try and figure things out for herself or seek some additional guidance and accountability.
She felt she had seriously tried every single fad diet there was. “From Keto to low carb, to intermittent and extended fasting. I would see some progress but couldn’t continue to see any benefit because none of these are really sustainable for me.” At first, she felt the program was a big change, only because the social media buzz and noise regarding nutrition and weight loss. “For years, I lived with the idea that carbs, of any kind, were the enemy.” She say in “weight loss groups” that the idea of maintaining a super-low calorie intake was the norm. “Letting go of the close tracking of calories and macros was kind of scary in the beginning, but I decided to trust the process that Chomp Nutrition uses.” She thought that she wouldn’t be able to have her favorite foods again, but she was wrong. Focusing on what to add her diet at first, rather than what to subtract, helped her feel like that she never had to put anything necessarily off limits.
“I am not starving! I don’t feel like I am making any sacrifice with eating or comfort levels with no measurable results.” She noticed that her clothes fit so much better and she has a lot more energy to tackle her workouts and her typical daily activities. “It really changed the way I view nutrition for myself!”
