Janet is 63 years young and she has always been active. She mainly would run or walk, but active. She says, “I was noticing a huge loss of muscle tone as I aged, especially in my upper body.” She began to realize that she needed to do something to build muscle and strength. She also realized that the longer she waited, the more muscle tone and strength she would lose and it takes time to build it back.
She had never lifted weights and said she knew NOTHING about the many exercises, weightlifting, and techniques. She initially told herself that she CAN’T do CrossFit. Her daughter and son-in-law had started training at Jurassic and their enthusiasm was so contagious that she decided that she COULD.
She came in the doors of Jurassic CrossFit and after her initial consult – “No-Sweat Intro” – she knew she was “hooked”. She started right away. She reminisces of her 5-Day On-Ramp, or one-on-one sessions to help prepare someone for group classes, and how she was taught correct form and safety first. She knew proper technique would be a challenge still, but when she started attending the 5am class consistently she had noticed all the coaches give each person in class individual attention! “The coaches are fabulous in assisting every single person to improve and no one puts you down. They are all encouraging and spur each other to improve.”
Over her now 7 months with us, she says, “I am delighted to see the changes in my physical strength, muscle tone, core strength, endurance, and agility.” She started with rope pull-to-stands and now she can climb all the way to the top knot, which is only a single example of her progress! She feels strong!
She talks highly of her classmates and the community. “I don’t want to miss. That group has become my encouragers, my friends, and my motivation for improving.“ As for Janet, she always comes in giving her 100% and tries to be there as much as possible. She motivates and encourages, often believing in YOU before you may even believe in yourself. She is all smiles (yes, even at 5am) and she exudes positivity and joy.
If she were to give herself advice when she first started, she says it would be to not compare herself to others who had been doing this longer. “I am gaining ground with each workout.” Secondly, she says she should have gone sooner! “I am loving my coaches and the others I work out with. They are now friends.”
She wants to tell you that we have classes to fit all schedules, and we offer not only physical training but have nutritional guidance as well. “I feel Jurassic doesn’t just provide a place to workout, but gives great advice to nutrition, appropriate rest, and correct technique in exercising. All this together means I feel stronger, healthier, and happier with my physical being.”
She leaves you with one last little nugget of Janet-style encouragement: “Don’t tell yourself you can’t. Join the I CAN team and improve one day at a time.”
It’s time for you to surround yourself with people who want to improve and who want to see you improve your health and wellness too. Surround yourself in a community that cares. >this link<
